The Hamilton Specialty Bar (2007) Inc. (HSB) was founded in 1910. From our simple beginning as a rail re-rolling mill, an early commitment to continuous improvement has led to our current position as a highly respected producer of Special Bar Quality (SBQ) steel bars.

In fact, our ongoing policy of technological innovation, stringent quality control and "customer-first" service makes, "Quality is Always on the Line", more than a collection of emotive words. It represents a commitment that shapes everything we do.

Highlights include:

1910 Founded as Canada Steel Company, a rail re-rolling mill
1914 Name changed to Burlington Steel Company
1921 Forging machines for the production of grinding balls installed
1935 First electric furnace installed
1961 Control of company taken over by N. Slater Company
1968 3-strand Concast continuous steel billet casting machine commissioned
1974 Entered SBQ market
1984 Burlington Steel renamed Slater Steels, Hamilton Specialty Bar
1985 Installed ladle refining station (first in Canada)
1986 Achieved Ford Q1 (first steel bar mill)
1995 Achieved ISO 9002
1996 Installed in-line laser bar gauge (second in North America)
1996 Certified to QS-9000 (first SBQ mini-mill, worldwide)
1998 Commissioned new electric arc furnace
1999 Achieved QS-9000 Third Edition
2001 Registered to ISO 14001 December 2001
2002 Achieved Q1 - 2002 - February 2002
2002 Registered to ISO 9001: 2000 February 2002
2004 HSB Division purchased from Slater by Delaware Street Capital (DSC) April 2004
